SAIC Awarded 2011 Small Business Administration Dwight D. Eisenhower Award
Company Recognized for Excellence in Working with Small Businesses
MCLEAN, Va., May 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) (NYSE: SAI) today announced that it has received the 2011 Dwight D. Eisenhower Award for Excellence from the Small Business Administration (SBA). The award is given in recognition of exemplary commitment to using small businesses as subcontractors and suppliers. SAIC received the award in the research and development category.
During government fiscal year 2010, SAIC subcontracted more than $2.2 billon in work to small businesses, accounting for approximately 20 percent of SAIC's total revenue for the same period. The company's commitment to small business has resulted in nearly an 80% increase in the amount of dollars subcontracted to small businesses over the past four years.
The award was presented to Jim Cuff, SAIC executive vice president for Business Development, Strategy and M&A, today at an SBA Small Business Week event in Washington, D.C.
"This award recognizes our commitment to fostering the success of small businesses," said Cuff. "Teaming with small businesses is important to fostering innovation in support of the customers and markets we serve. We are honored to be recognized with this award and look forward to continuing our work with small businesses, which we see as the backbone of our nation's economic growth and prosperity."
The Eisenhower Award, created in 1991, is named for the president under whose administration the SBA was founded. The award honors large federal prime contractors that have excelled in their utilization of small businesses. To be considered for the award, companies must provide significant opportunities for small businesses and demonstrate leadership, advocacy, and innovation with respect to working with them. This is SAIC's sixth SBA Award of distinction including two prior Eisenhower Awards and three Frances Perkins Vanguard Awards.
