SAIC Awarded 2011 Department of Defense Nunn-Perry Award
Company Recognized for Excellence in Mentoring Small Business
MCLEAN, Va., March 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) (NYSE: SAI) announced today that it received the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Nunn-Perry Award for mentor-protege excellence. Named in honor of former Senator Sam Nunn and former Secretary of Defense William Perry, the award recognizes outstanding mentor-protege teams formed under the auspices of the DoD Mentor-Protege program. SAIC received the award in recognition for its exemplary efforts in mentoring the Engineering/Remediation Resources Group (ERRG), Inc.
Based in Martinez, Calif., ERRG is a woman-owned small business (WSB) and small disadvantaged business (SDB) specializing in engineering, remediation, construction, military munitions response, and emergency preparedness services. Through the Mentor-Protege program, SAIC provided training and assistance that enhanced ERRG's technical capabilities and business infrastructure. During this time, ERRG realized a 67% growth in both its overall revenues and number of employees.
SAIC has been an active participant in the DoD Mentor-Protege program for nearly 20 years and has been recognized by the government for its participation in other civilian agency small business programs. SAIC has formally mentored over 80 firms, enhancing their capabilities and increasing their participation in government contracts and serving as an engine for economic growth.
"SAIC is deeply honored and grateful to be recognized for our efforts in fostering the growth and success of ERRG," said Liz Saris, SAIC operations manager. "SAIC needs good teammates that share our values, market focus and passion for our business. This award recognizes what has been a mutually beneficial and successful strategic relationship."
This is the thirteenth time SAIC has been selected to receive a Nunn-Perry Award.
