SAIC Awarded 2010 Small Business Administration Frances Perkins Vanguard Award
Company Recognized for Excellence in Working with Women-Owned Small Businesses
MCLEAN, Va., May 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) (NYSE: SAI) today announced that it has received the 2010 Frances Perkins Vanguard Award for Excellence from the Small Business Administration (SBA). The award is given in recognition of exemplary utilization of women-owned small businesses. This is the third time that SAIC has received this award.
During Government Fiscal Year 2009, SAIC awarded approximately $2 billion in subcontracts to small businesses. This included more than $360 million in subcontracts awarded to women-owned firms. For the past five government fiscal years, SAIC has exceeded the five percent statutory goal, consistently awarding approximately 10% of total dollars subcontracted to women-owned small businesses. The company's commitment to small business development has resulted in nearly a 50% increase in the amount of dollars subcontracted to women-owned small businesses during the same period.
Nominees for the Perkins Award are evaluated in areas including leadership, advocacy, innovation and implementation. The award was presented to Jim Cuff, SAIC senior vice president for business development, today at an SBA Small Business Week event in Washington, D.C.
"We understand the power of the entrepreneurial spirit that drives women-owned small businesses," said Cuff. "This award recognizes our commitment to fostering the success of small businesses – we realize that they are vital to our nation's economic growth and prosperity."
SAIC has also earned two SBA Dwight D. Eisenhower Awards for small business excellence.
