SAIC Awarded $12 Million Task Order by the Department of Homeland Security
Company to Support the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) National Exercise Division by Helping Evaluate Catastrophic Earthquake Disaster Response
MCLEAN, Va., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) (NYSE: SAI) today announced it has been awarded a task order by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), National Exercise Division (NED) to design and support national level exercises to evaluate catastrophic earthquake preparedness. The task order has a five-month base period of performance, a single one-year option, and is valued at more than $12 million if the option is exercised. Work will be performed throughout the United States. The task order was awarded under the DHS National Exercise Program (NEP) contract.
The NED helps prepare the government to respond to incidents resulting from either natural disasters or malicious acts, with the goal of minimizing the loss of lives and property. The division provides strategy, policy, and planning guidance to build prevention, protection, response, and recovery capabilities for all levels of government. These exercises help evaluate emerging needs and identify national-level challenges. Under the contract, SAIC will provide exercise design support, and will help conduct exercises nationally. This work helps fulfill a congressional mandate requiring testing of U.S. capabilities in response to a catastrophic event.
"SAIC is pleased to support the critical catastrophic disaster preparedness mission at FEMA and its NED," said Charles Zang, SAIC senior vice president and business unit general manager. "We look forward to helping evaluate and enhance our government's capability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from a catastrophic earthquake."
