Sagent Advisors Adds Two Senior Bankers
Joseph Mooney Joins as Head of M&A, Paul Scherzer Leads Metals and Mining Practice
NEW YORK, April 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Sagent Advisors, LLC, a leading independent investment banking firm, announced today that Joseph Mooney and Paul Scherzer have joined the firm as Managing Directors, effective immediately. Mr. Mooney, who joins from Citigroup, will serve as the Head of Mergers and Acquisitions, and Mr. Scherzer, who joins from Credit Suisse, will lead the firm's Metals and Mining efforts. They are both based in Sagent's New York headquarters.

Prior to joining Sagent, Mr. Mooney was a Managing Director at Citigroup where he had been since 1999, most recently as the senior M&A partner overseeing East Coast technology. While at Citigroup, Mr. Mooney advised numerous domestic and international clients on a variety of buy- and sell-side transactions across a range of industries. Among his recent assignments, Mr. Mooney advised Genpact on Bain Capital's purchase of $1.0 billion of Genpact shares from GA and Oak Hill and subsequent $500 million special dividend; Fundtech on its $400 million sale to GTRC; Avis Budget on its $1.0 billion acquisition of Avis Europe; Keane, Inc. on its sale to NTT Data; and Express Scripts on its $4.7 billion acquisition of Wellpoint's PBM business. Prior to Citigroup, he worked in the Mergers and Acquisitions groups at both Morgan Stanley and Salomon Brothers Inc.
Mr. Mooney graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History from Hampden-Sydney College and received his MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.
Mr. Scherzer joins Sagent from Credit Suisse after an 18-year tenure where he was most recently the Head of Americas Metals & Mining. He has expertise across an array of industries and has covered the metals and mining sector across the globe, advising global clients on the full spectrum of mergers and acquisitions as well as capital market products including initial public offerings, debt and equity financings. Mr. Scherzer has advised clients in a broad range of complex, strategic transactions including Sunoco on its $1.5 billion separation of SunCoke Energy; Signal Peak Energy in its sale of an interest to Gunvor Group; and Evraz Group in its $4.0 billion acquisition of ISPCO Tubular and its subsequent $1.7 billion sale of IPSCO USA to OAO TMK.
Mr. Scherzer graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western University in Ontario.
