Sage Analytics Applauds State of Colorado General Assembly for Crafting a New Bill Concerning Marijuana Testing
House Bill 15-1283 requires development of a marijuana laboratory testing reference library
BOULDER, Colo., April 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Sage Analytics (www.sageanalytics.com), the developers of a new, highly accurate system for the testing of marijuana potency, commented today on the bill introduced into the Colorado Assembly that would require the Department of Public Health and Environment to establish a Reference Library that will contain a catalog of methodologies for marijuana testing in the areas of potency, homogeneity, contaminants, and solvents. The Reference Library will also be responsible for proficiency testing and remediating problems with licensed laboratories.
Sage Analytics has been a vocal proponent regarding the need for standardization in cannabis testing. Several media reports in recent weeks have illuminated this troubling issue, where different testing labs can produce variant results – even when testing the same sample.
To help remediate this problem, Sage Analytics is currently working with one of the largest, most respected labs in the nation, to create a comprehensive database that encompasses virtually all strains of marijuana. This database can be used to calibrate testing equipment so that all laboratories have the same baseline, and can recognize strains by matching to the known samples in the library.
"We are encouraged by the Colorado Assembly Bill, and believe this is a step in the right direction," said Matt Kaplan, President of Sage Analytics. "We believe that the cannabis industry should adopt the same stringent testing procedures as those used by the pharmaceutical industry, where accurate potency measurement is critical."
"Technology is rapidly advancing, giving regulators the means to require tighter tolerances for these types of regulations with the adoption of new types of testing systems, such as those that Sage Analytics is bringing to the market," Kaplan added.
The team at Sage Analytics has met with Colorado lawmakers and looks forward to continuing to provide constructive input where needed to help improve existing regulations and create greater safety, consistency and responsibility within the cannabis industry.
