PITTSBURGH, Jan. 10, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- 4moms®, in cooperation with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), is conducting a voluntary recall on its 4moms® self-installing car seat models manufactured between July 1, 2016 and October 31, 2016. This recall affects an estimated 2% of the 1,622 units manufactured during this period.
The safety of 4moms' consumers and their children is of the utmost importance. After recently learning about a potential issue with the self-installing car seat carrier, 4moms took immediate steps to investigate. The results determined that in some carriers, the coupling hooks – the hooks that lock the carrier into the base – have been improperly riveted, potentially causing them to stick and fail to attach to the car seat base. This coupling hook failure has only been observed after extended use and testing, and there have been no reported injuries.
To address this issue, affected customers will receive a replacement infant carrier at no charge. To determine if your 4moms self-installing car seat is affected, visit www.4moms.com/recalls. Replacement carriers will be available starting January 13, 2017 and will be delivered within 5-10 business days after a customer completes the required form. While waiting for their replacement, customers can continue to use the current carrier, but are encouraged to double-check that it has properly locked into the base before every ride by pulling up on the carrier handle to ensure it's secure. If customers are able to lift the carrier out of its base without first manually disengaging the coupling hook, they can either manually install the car seat via a carrier-only installation, or discontinue using the car seat until their replacement arrives.
Customers with questions can contact the 4moms Customer Care Team at 1-888-614-6667 during business hours (Monday – Friday; 9 AM – 5 PM ET).
