ARLINGTON, Va., Dec. 7, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, American Trucking Associations reiterated the industry's strong record of investing in and implementing innovative technologies to improve safety on the nation's highways.
"J.B. Hunt and many ATA members are early adopters of emerging safety technologies," Greer Woodruff, senior vice president of safety, security and driver personnel at J.B. Hunt, said on behalf of ATA at a congressional roundtable hosted by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee's Subcommittee on Highways and Transit. "In fact the trucking industry spends over $9 billion annually on safety including technology enhancements to help ensure that drivers and passengers of all vehicles make it safely to their destination."
Woodruff also pressed lawmakers to include commercial vehicles in automated vehicle legislation under consideration in Congress to ensure that state and federal laws do not conflict or impede the safety and efficiency of interstate commerce.
A leading expert on transportation safety, Woodruff serves on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's Safety Advisory Committee. His remarks, as prepared for delivery can be read here.
