BOSTON, Jan. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Safety Insurance (Nasdaq: SAFT), a leading provider of auto, home and commercial insurance in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, today announced its sponsorship of WGBH’s High School Quiz Show.
Inspired by the original College Bowl of the 1960’s, the High School Quiz Show academic tournament spotlights Massachusetts teen scholars and rewards academic achievement. Hosted by local radio and television personality Billy Costa, High School Quiz Show is endorsed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and premieres February 13, 2011 at 7pm on WGBH 2.
“Safety’s dedication to enhancing Massachusetts communities – especially for creating opportunities for young people – makes them an ideal sponsor for High School Quiz Show,” said Jon Abbott, President and CEO of WGBH. “We’re excited to work with Safety to encourage teen scholarship in the Commonwealth.”
“Safety Insurance is proud to support WGBH and recognize the Commonwealth’s best and brightest,” said George Murphy, Vice President of Marketing for Safety Insurance. “High School Quiz Show promotes the importance of scholarship, while helping reward those students dedicated to academic success.”
The sponsorship is part of Safety Insurance’s broader commitment to supporting important community causes throughout Massachusetts. Some of Safety’s other major philanthropic initiatives include an ongoing sponsorship of Safe Roads Alliance, a nonprofit dedicated to improving driving safety in the Commonwealth, as well as a longstanding commitment to the United Way.
“Our involvement with High School Quiz Show is an important part of Safety’s commitment to fostering meaningful and safe opportunities for young people in Massachusetts,” Murphy added.
High School Quiz Show will spotlight 16 local Eastern Massachusetts public high schools, including: Acton-Boxborough Regional High School, Arlington High School, Dartmouth High School, Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School, Hingham High School, Mystic Valley Regional Charter School, Natick High School, North Middlesex Regional High School, Norwell High School, Sharon High School, Shepherd Hill Regional High School, The Bromfield School, Wachusett Regional High School, Weston High School, Whitman-Hanson Regional High School and Woburn Memorial High School.
