SAE Webcast Explores 3-D Surface Metrology and Areal Parameters
WARRENDALE, Pa., Sept. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SAE International's Automotive Engineering International (AEI) magazine offers a new webcast on 3-D surface metrology.
"Production Ready 3D Surface Metrology" will be held Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 11:30 a.m. (EDT).
Many aspects of the manufacturing and production of moving parts across automotive, aerospace, commercial, and construction equipment industries are similar in nature. Often surface characteristics play an integral role in the function of large machined or moving parts, including bearing surfaces, shafts, and dynamic seals, among others. Accurately quantifying and reporting on surface roughness, texture, and functional surface parameters during early stages of production will enable defect identification at the earliest possible process points.
Sponsored by Bruker Nano, this webcast will explore some key measurement technologies for the fastest characterization of surfaces and will cover aspects of filtering and analysis, as well as gage capability for metrology tools. In addition, an easy operator interface will be described for fast, accurate measurement of 3-D areal surface parameters, which are critical to understanding resulting functional surface performance. A case study from industry will be examined as well and a live question and answer session will occur.
Industry expert for the webcast will be Matt Novak, Ph.D., Marketing Applications Development Manager, Bruker Nano Surfaces Division. Novak has 15 years' experience in development of metrology products and systems across a range of applications including optical inspection, optical fabrication and testing, surface characterization, and thin film filter characterization. He has authored several journal articles and white papers and earned his Ph.D. (specializing in optical metrology) while working for a metrology capital equipment manufacturer selling to technical markets.
