SAE International Book Details Onboard Diagnostics and Measurement for Vehicles on Land, Sea and in the Air
WARRENDALE, Pa., Nov. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Direct (OBM) and indirect (OBD) determination of emissions in transportation is the focus of a book from SAE International.
"Onboard Diagnostics and Measurement in the Automotive Industry, Shipbuilding and Aircraft Construction" offers the reader a state-of-the-art report on the recent developments on the determination of emissions and the estimation of concentration of pollutants in the exhaust pipe, using technologies such as intelligent micro controllers, micro sensors and micro actuators systems on board.
Written by Dr. Palocz-Andresen, guest professor of Sustainable Transportation at Leuphana University in Luneburg, Germany, the book is especially useful in understanding how the European Union and the United States address the problem of transport-generated emissions. The information goes beyond the more common emissions issues encountered in the automotive arena (including light duty and heavy commercial vehicles), to expand upon the upcoming and similar concerns derived from air and sea transport.
"Onboard Diagnostics and Measurement in the Automotive Industry, Shipbuilding and Aircraft Construction" is a must-have source of technical information to those studying or working in the areas of transportation technology, sustainability, legislation, environment and climate protection.
"International requirements regarding emissions are continuously increasing. The CARB has a leading role not only in the United States but all over the world," author Michael Palocz-Andresen, said. "LEV, ULEV, SULEV are playing a decisive role in emission protection. And, in the time period of 2014-2022, SULEV 20 will, as well. These measures must be continuously monitored by OBM technology. In addition, future portable emission measuring systems must contain the common hydrocarbon and nitrogen oxide tube on-board," he added.
Chapters include:
- Onboard Diagnostics (OBD) and Onboard Measurement (OBM) in Motor Vehicles
- Road Vehicle Monitoring
- International Comparisons
- State of the Art for Measurement Techniques
- Applications with OBM Devices
- Exhaust Gas Measurement at the Catalyst
- Ecological Driving
- OBD/OBM for Future Fuels
- Measurement of the Emissions in Aviation
- Measurement of the Emissions from Ship's Diesel Engines
- Environmental and Climate Protection
- Changing Social and Individual Behavior Patterns
Dr. Palocz-Andresen studied engineering sciences at Montan University Freiberg in Saxony, Germany. From 1971 to 1978, he was an assistant professor at the same university in the field of combustion processes in large power stations. From 1978 to 1986, Dr. Palocz-Andresen was a researcher at the University of Karlsruhe in Germany, in the fields of adsorption and desorption of odorants and natural gases in soils. He worked on the development of new odorants for the international gas industry with a low adsorption rate and high safety level. Dr. Palocz-Andresen also served as head of the Research and Development Department at the Maihak AG in Hamburg for measuring and application systems from 1986 to 1992. Between 1993 and 2004, Dr. Palocz-Andresen was director of OBM GmbH, a scientific institute for environmental research, in Hamburg, specializing in micro measurement technology in gas pressure regulation stations, mobile gas analysis of pollution, and the decrease of fuel consumption and exhaust gas emissions in different modes of transportation. Since 1997, he has been a professor for Environmental Measurement Technology at the Technical University in Budapest; and, since 2005 a professor at the University of West Hungary for Environmental and Climate Protection. Between 2005 and 2007, he was director of the West Hungarian Environmental Centre. Since November 2011, he has held the position of a guest professorship for Sustainable Transportation at Leuphana University in Luneburg.
