SAE International Announces Slate of November Automotive Engineering Seminars in China
WARRENDALE, Pa., Sept. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Hybrid and electric vehicles, powertrain architecture and battery pack design will be featured in SAE International's November professional development courses to be held in China.
The seminars include:
- 5-6 November – "Fundamentals of Hybrid Electric Vehicles and Related Technologies" – Driven by high fuel prices, environmental regulations, and consumer demand, the market for hybrid electric vehicles has experienced rapid growth. This two-day seminar will cover the fundamentals of HEV in an easy-to-understand format. This seminar will explain how HEVs save fuel, how they are classified in terms of powertrain system architecture and an in-depth look at the hybrid powertrain architectures of Power-split and P2 HEV. Also explained will be the design, modeling, and control of HEVs and component selection. Existing HEV models, such as the Toyota Prius, Honda Civic, GM Volt, AUDI Q5, and VW Touareg will be used as case studies throughout the seminar.
- 8-9 November – "Powertrain Architecture, Controls, and Energy Management Systems of EV and HEV" – This seminar will be taught in Mandarin Chinese, and the course materials will be bilingual (English & Chinese). Developing environmentally cleaner and more fuel efficient vehicles is transforming the automotive industry worldwide, particularly in China with its emphasis on new energy vehicles. This two-day seminar will focus on providing attendees with an overview of hybrid electric vehicle propulsion systems followed by design and control approaches for series, parallel, and plug-in hybrid powertrains. Finally, high efficiency energy management strategies are addressed. To ensure a thorough understanding of the design concepts and practical applications covered in this course, a number of case problems, examples, and demonstrations are utilized.
- 8-9 November – "Introduction to Battery Pack Design, Integration, and Validation in China" – New energy requirements for China's vehicle market are significantly increasing battery system development. This comprehensive two-day seminar introduces participants to system level design considerations, including battery and vehicle interface requirements, battery design and production validations, design changes and the inevitable performance compromises that must be addressed when implementing these technologies. This seminar begins with vehicle level battery requirements and analysis of the battery-vehicle interface followed by an in-depth study of system electronics, thermal management, performance, and CAN communication requirements.
