The goal of the competition is to find innovative solutions for bringing science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) professionals into public schools to offer their talent, knowledge and real-world skills to students.
The SAE Foundation is nominated for its "Classroom to College STEM Connection" program, which aims to connect local college students in and around the Detroit area to students in the Detroit Public School System who currently participate in SAE International's A World In Motion® (AWIM) JetToy activity.
As a top ten finalist, the SAE Foundation is eligible to win several prizes including the $20,000 People's Choice Award to help facilitate its Classroom to College STEM Connection program. In addition, the SAE Foundation also is eligible to win one of two Judges' Awards for $30,000 each and has been selected as a finalist for two distinct Special Focus Prizes.
"To be selected as a finalist in the Partnering for Excellence competition is an honor and a privilege," Matthew Miller, director of the SAE Foundation and Pre-Professional Programs, said. "The Classroom to College STEM Connection provides a memorable learning experience for elementary students, and also provides a meaningful volunteer experience for university students who are willing to offer their time and knowledge. The program benefits all involved and we are proud of this recognition."
