Ryan Principal John Sharp Appointed Chancellor of Texas A&M University System

DALLAS, Sept. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Ryan, a leading global tax services firm with the largest indirect tax practice in North America, today announced that John Sharp has been appointed Chancellor of the Texas A&M University System by the Board of Regents.  Mr. Sharp will resign his position as Ryan Principal to oversee one of the largest university systems in the nation.  The Texas A&M System has 11 universities with 120,000 students, an annual budget of $3.3 billion, seven state agencies, and a health science center.

Mr. Sharp joined Ryan as a Principal in 1999 and has been instrumental in the Firm's rapid growth in market share to the seventh largest tax services firm in the United States.  Mr. Sharp's history in Texas state affairs dates to back to 1979, when he spent eight years as a legislator in the Texas House of Representatives and Senate before becoming Texas Railroad Commissioner in 1987.  Mr. Sharp served as Texas Comptroller from 1991 to 1998.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Texas A&M University and a Master of Public Administration degree from Texas State University.
