HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C., Sept. 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Ryan Millington added his name to the legendary list of drivers who have won the coveted Late Model Stock car championship at the historic NASCAR Hickory Motor Speedway on Saturday evening. In doing so Millington became the youngest driver in history to claim the prize at age 16 years and two weeks. The historic speedway is known as the "Birthplace of the NASCAR stars" in racing circles.
In the heat of the day Millington recorded his 10th No. 1 qualifying position of the season, which placed his MyComputerCareer sponsored POW-MIA Freedom Car No. 76 on the pole for the 80-lap Bojangles main event. After a lap-eight debris caution, the teen found his race car in fourth position, with driver, Charlie Watson leading the field. With no cautions over the next 72 laps, Millington kept it clean. His top-4 finish in the race was enough to seal the deal as the track points champion for the 2017 season series. When the checkered flag flew, Millington's hard-working crew jumped for joy as the young champion crossed the finish line.
Tony Galati, Founder and CEO of the racer's lead sponsor, MyComputerCareer said this about Millington's achievement. "We sponsor the POW-MIA Freedom Car as a way to honor the men and women who have paid the ultimate price defending our country and our way of life. It's vital that we never forget those taken prisoner or who have never returned from the field of battle. Ryan's victory tonight is icing on the cake and we're so proud of him and his entire crew. It also gives us the opportunity to reach more people with the Freedom Car message."
Millington won ten pole positions and nine feature events in his quest for his first Late Model title. "I can't thank Johnson Motorsports, MyComputerCareer.edu and the Abenaki Tribal Nation for all of their support this season," said Ryan. "It has been an honor to represent POW-MIA and to help people remember those who have served our country. My guys have worked so hard this year and it feels great to win this for everyone."
