R.W. Beck Veteran Robert Davis Joins Energy Storage Leader Ice Energy as VP, Utility Market Development
Exec will lead modeling, analysis and integrated resource planning activities for Ice Energy's grid-scale distributed energy storage offering
WINDSOR, Colo., Jan. 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Ice Energy, a leading provider of intelligent distributed energy storage to the electric utility industry, has named Robert L. Davis as Vice President, Utility Market Development.
In this newly created position, Mr. Davis will be responsible for directing integrated planning, modeling and analysis of Ice Energy's distributed, grid-scale energy storage resource for utility customers and prospects. He brings to the company more than 25 years of experience in electric industry planning and operations, most recently serving as the Director of Strategic Resource Planning for R. W. Beck, Inc., an SAIC Company.
While at R.W. Beck, Mr. Davis was responsible for multiple electric industry studies related to integrated resource planning, price forecasting for power and fuel markets, locational marginal pricing, demand-side planning, generation simulation, risk and probabilistic analyses, RFP development and evaluation, and power supply contracting.
His experience also encompasses fuel procurement, alternative generation technology evaluation, wholesale and retail rate design, cost of service analyses, load and customer forecasting, and financial reporting for revenue bond and capital market issuance. He has testified before state commissions on certification of need, power supply planning, and demand-side planning, and RTO formation, and before FERC in support of market power investigations.
Most recently, he was instrumental in authoring an energy storage modeling guide designed to assist utility planners and analysts in modeling and valuing storage-equipped facilities as part of a utility's electric system analysis and planning processes.
"Determining the value of our distributed energy storage resource is considerably different for utility resource planners than modeling conventional power supply or demand-side resources," said Mike Young, Senior V.P. of Sales for Ice Energy. "Bob's experience and expertise working with utilities on resource planning issues is of tremendous value to our customers and our company. He's the right person for the job and we're thrilled to have him on board."
Prior to joining R.W. Beck, Mr. Davis spent five years as a utility analyst for Gainesville Regional Utilities, where he was responsible for the design, evaluation, and monitoring of energy efficiency and demand response programs. He holds a BS degree in Engineering Sciences and Mechanics from the University of Florida, with an interdisciplinary study of alternative energy technologies, energy efficiency, and engineering mathematics.
