LOS ANGELES, Jan. 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- IMAX Corporation (NYSE:IMAX) today announced that the Russian-language film, Attraction, from Art Pictures Studio and Vodorod Studios will be digitally re-mastered in the immersive IMAX format and released in IMAX® theatres in Russia and select international markets starting Jan. 27, 2017.
Marking the fourth Russian-language film to be released in IMAX, Attraction is directed by Fedor Bondarchuk, who also produced, along with Dmitry Rudovsky, Mikhail Vrubel and Alexander Andryuschenko. Attraction is the second film from acclaimed director Bondarchuk to be digitally re-mastered for the IMAX format after the record-breaking Stalingrad, which was produced by Alexander Rodnyansky and was the first Russian-language film ever to be released in IMAX and stands as the highest-grossing film of all time in Russia.
"After teaming up with Team IMAX for the first time on Stalingrad, I am thrilled to announce our next project – Attraction – in IMAX," said Bondarchuk. "With this film, we want to give audiences a chance to erase all borders of perception and to immerse completely into the story as only seen through the IMAX Experience®."
"We are excited to partner again with Fedor Bondarchuk on this thrilling new Russian-language epic Attraction," said Greg Foster, Senior Executive Vice President, IMAX Corp. and CEO of IMAX Entertainment. "Local-language productions continue to be an important part of the IMAX business, especially now in Russia with what will likely become one of the most anticipated local films of 2017."
The IMAX® release of Attraction will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.
