SAN FRANCISCO, June 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Runtastic – an innovative suite of apps, products and services that track and manage health and fitness data to motivate individuals to get in shape, stay healthy and improve overall fitness – announced an industry-leading integration with Android Wear, Google Fit and Google Glass. On the heels of surpassing 80 million downloads and 40 million registered users on Runtastic.com, the company also announced that it has launched new offerings designed specifically for Android. Runtastic is currently showcasing these products at the Developer Sandbox at Google I/O.
Runtastic Among First Apps Available on Android Wear
Runtastic is one of the first apps to be available on Android Wear. Wear extends Android to wearable devices and integrates with the flagship Runtastic app, showcasing tracking features and customizable stats such as time, pace, calories, distance and more. By utilizing the voice commands, users can also start Runtastic activities on Wear. In addition, the Runtastic app for Wear displays heart rate data when paired with the Runtastic Bluetooth Heart Rate Monitor.
"Runtastic delivers world-class tracking so working with Android Wear is a natural fit for us," said Florian Gschwandtner, CEO and Co-Founder of Runtastic. "With major watch and technology players behind Wear, we see the value in being one of the first companies to develop apps specifically for this platform."
Early Developer on Google Fit to Provide Users Comprehensive Offering
As a company with over 12 apps on Android, Runtastic is one of the first to develop on Google Fit which offers developers a single set of APIs. The just-announced open platform is designed to help users keep better track of their fitness goals and acts as a central store of user's fitness information.
"This is an exciting opportunity for Runtastic as both our apps and hardware now work across Google Glass, Wear, and Fit," said Stephan Brunner, Head of Android at Runtastic. "We're excited to be one of the first developers to offer users options on these new platforms, expanding the suite of services we already provide."
Runtastic Brings Apps & Hardware to Google Glass
For those who have been chomping at the bit to use new software on Glass, the wait is over. Runtastic's popular Fitness App Collection, which allows users to monitor their strength and toning exercises, including Push-Ups, Sit-Ups, Pull-Ups and Squats, is now available on Glass. Users can use Glass to select their activity and workout type, count their reps and complete training plans. Runtastic's Heart Rate Combo Monitor also connects to Glass by utilizing Bluetooth Smart technology.
"Glass represents a very practical integration for circuit and strength workouts, where counting reps and monitoring timing are key," said Gschwandtner. "As Glass has not yet hit the mainstream market, we're excited to be one of the first companies to showcase the potential of such a device in the health and fitness space."
Runtastic Brings Street View to Android
The Runtastic app now integrates Google Maps Street View. When a user reviews a completed activity, panoramas of places they passed are presented as a slideshow. In addition, users can enter the full screen setting and explore the surroundings of the route in greater detail.
Another innovative new feature in the Runtastic app is "Challenge a Run," where users can select past runs and try to beat their times during their current activity.
