Ruby-Gordon Cares: International Women's Day
ROCHESTER, N.Y., Feb. 17, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Ruby-Gordon, a locally owned and operated Rochester, NY furniture and mattress store, will be hosting a community celebration event to honor the Women's Rights Movement on March 8th and 9th.
March 8th has been designated as International Women's Day. It is the day the world "celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women." International Women's Day has been celebrated around the world for more than a century, and this year, Ruby-Gordon joins the celebration along with the National Women's Hall of Fame, whose mission is "Showcasing great women, inspiring all." World renowned Caricature Artist, Philip Burke, will be center stage in the Ruby-Gordon store creating a five foot tall caricature of Rochester's own Susan B. Anthony in front of a live audience that will include 7th graders from the Young Women's College Prep Charter School. He'll start with a white canvas at 10:30am on March 8th and work until 2pm that same day. Mr. Burke will come back the morning of March 9th to finish up the caricature.

Toyia Wilson, Principal, of Young Women's College Prep Charter School located in downtown Rochester said, "We are thrilled for our young students to participate in this event and to be part of an internationally celebrated day. We are encouraging our students to learn about Susan B. Anthony, the history of the Women's Rights Movement, and create a learning opportunity while also having fun."

The Susan B. Anthony caricature will be auctioned off with the proceeds from the auction being donated to the National Women's Hall of Fame.
