Rubbermaid Commercial Products Reinvents Mop Bucket with Innovative Integrated Water Filter
Rubbermaid Hygen Clean Water System makes dirty water clean again; delivers 75 percent savings on water and chemicals with 25 percent better cost-in-use than traditional mop system
ATLANTA, Oct. 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Newell Rubbermaid (NYSE: NWL) today announced the global launch of the Hygen™ Clean Water System from its Rubbermaid Commercial Products® (RCP) brand. The Rubbermaid Hygen Clean Water System is the only floor cleaning system to feature a unique water filter integrated into the mop bucket to generate clean water, resulting in a cleaner mop and floor. The integrated water filter improves cost-in-use and sustainability by reducing water and chemical usage and increasing worker productivity, saving a typical facility about $6,000 a year in labor costs.

With traditional mop buckets, maintenance staff must mop floors with water containing the dirt they are trying to remove--or else make frequent trips to a supply closet for fresh water. On average, it takes four minutes per trip in employee labor to swap dirty water for clean, which consumes valuable time and resources including water and cleaning product from a facility's budget. With a tilt of the Rubbermaid Hygen Clean Water System's filter bucket, dirty water passes from the mopping chamber through the back-flushable filter where particulates are removed and returns to the chamber allowing users to continue mopping with clean water throughout the workday.
"We designed the Clean Water System with both end-users and facility managers in mind to simplify mopping, improve productivity and cost efficiency, and reduce the use of water and chemicals," said Bob Heisner, Vice President of Marketing for the Rubbermaid Commercial Products global business unit. "Savings on water and cleaning chemicals allow facilities to recoup their investment in the Clean Water System in less than three months, while netting 25 percent better cost-in-use compared to traditional mopping tools throughout the life of the system."
The RCP Hygen Clean Water System filter bucket provides additional benefits including a twin roller design that requires 50 percent less force to wring compared to a traditional side press wringer and features four adjustable settings for desired mop dampness. Built-in agitators in the mopping chamber remove at least 25 percent more dirt from mops and a floor-drain makes it simple to empty the mop bucket at the end of the day. As a complete floor cleaning solution, the Clean Water System includes a unique stainless steel double-sided folding mop frame and nine double-sided microfiber mop pads designed to work exclusively with the filter bucket.
The Rubbermaid Hygen Clean Water System's nine microfiber mop pads are specially engineered to apply to floor surfaces common to schools, office buildings and hospitals and are proven to remove up to 99.9 percent of microorganisms, offering protection from allergens and illness. The microfiber mop pads connect to and disconnect from the mop frame in a quick, hands-free process. Superior in durability, cost-in-use and cleaning ability, the microfiber mop pads can be laundered up to 1,000 times, clean floors 45 percent better and up to 20 percent faster than string mops, and cover up to 500 square feet with one wring.
