MOSCOW, Oct. 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- RT's mobile application, website for documentary channel RTDoc and RT's special project commemorating the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War are nominated for the prestigious international award established by Editor & Publisher magazine. EPPY Awards are given to the best media-affiliated digital projects.
"We are very proud to be nominated for EPPY Awards in three different categories at the same time, especially because those awards are widely considered as the Emmys or the Oscars of the online journalism world," said RT's head of digital projects Elvira Chudnovskaya. "Our team works hard to develop and perfect the channel's digital offerings, and it's great when these efforts are recognized by industry professionals alongside millions of online and mobile users."
RT's special online portal dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Soviet and Russian victory in the Second World War – "Victory Day 70" – has made it to the list of finalists in the Best News or Event Feature on a Website category. The project is available in six languages and includes several interactive sections: the key dates of the war and a heatmap of battles, soldiers' letters and photographs, and a series of mini-documentaries called War Witness in which veterans shared their memories of the events. This Victory Day project and related digital special features were viewed by more than 10 million unique users in a single week.
RT's mobile news app was nominated in the Best Mobile App category. The app was also highlighted on Google's 'Best From Russia' list. The RT News App offers news feeds in English, Russian, Spanish, Arabic and French as well as online newscasts and a complete programs archive from all of RT's channels. In the last six months the number of RT News App downloads by Android users has grown by 120%. Earlier this year, the app was leading the Google Play news apps list in the US, ahead of CNN, Fox News, NBC News, Google News and Yahoo News.
RTD.RT.com, the website for RT's documentary channel RTDoc, received an EPPY nod for Best Overall Website Design. The intuitive interface of the site provides the audience with easy access to RT's exclusive documentaries available for online viewing. Many of RTD's documentaries have been distinguished with prestigious international awards. Most recently, Blood and Honour and Albino Africa received gold and silver awards respectively from New York Festivals.
Other TV channels nominated for this year's EPPY awards include CNN, Al Jazeera, CBS, and ESPN.
