ROXBURY, Mass., March 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Roxbury Community College (RCC) is pleased to announce a Groundbreaking Ceremony on April 7, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. The ceremony will be held in the courtyard between Building 2 and Building 3 (rain location: Media Arts Center Auditorium, Building 1) and will be immediately followed by a short reception in Building 4, on the second floor. The ceremony will mark the official start of major campus renovations, funded by the MA Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM).
The planned renovations are extensive, and will address the major infrastructure updates required for the College's long-term success. The College and its students will benefit from new windows, new elevators, new student common areas, a new academic support center, new nursing and radiology labs and a new testing lab, to name a few. The planned renovations also include the installation of a new solar canopy in Parking Lot 1, to further the College's sustainability efforts.
The renovations will be completed over two years, at a total cost of $47.5 million. This project marks the first time since the campus was built in 1987 that infrastructure improvements of this magnitude are planned for RCC.
Confirmed speakers for the Groundbreaking Ceremony include Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh, DCAMM Commissioner Carol Gladstone, Roxbury Community College President Valerie Roberson and a representative from Roxbury Community College's Board of Trustees.
The Groundbreaking Ceremony is scheduled to occur during the student activities period, to allow RCC faculty, students and staff to come together to celebrate the start of these significant improvements. The ceremony is also open to the general public.
