ANGLETON, Texas, Nov. 7, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Rowdy Girl Sanctuary ("RGS"), a 501(c)(3) charity that provides sanctuary to rescued farm animals and advocates a vegan lifestyle, is pleased to announce that all of the resident animals are back home safe and sound at the sanctuary in Angleton, Texas following the evacuation required after the massive flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey. "This is the second time in two years that we have had to evacuate," said founder Renee King-Sonnen. "We are grateful to our staff, donors and volunteers for assisting us during this difficult time."
Now that everyone is home, RGS is already planning for the future. "We recognize that unless and until climate change is properly addressed by our nation and all other nations, the force and effects of hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico may continue to wreak havoc in and around Houston," said Drew Alexis, an RGS Board member. "Therefore, for the long-term sustainability of the sanctuary, the RGS Board of Directors has determined that relocation to an area less likely to be impacted by flooding is necessary." RGS is in the process of looking for a location further inland from the Gulf and flood plain areas.
"I predict that 2018 will be an important and transformational year for Rowdy Girl," said Renee, "a year in which we focus on our future and spend our time and resources on advocating for the rights of farmed animals, and not on flood-driven evacuations and clean-ups."
In connection with focusing on its future, RGS also made a decision to resolve the pending lawsuit against a number of individuals who have sought to damage the name and good work being done by RGS through defamatory social media posts. Fortunately, a donor who has spent significant time working with RGS and personally assisted with the evacuation this year stepped up to assist RGS by donating the funds needed to cover the litigation and settlement expenses. "RGS is grateful to this donor, whose contribution will mean that the funds raised throughout the year for animal care, bedding, supplies, food and other operational needs, not be reallocated away from such important needs," said Renee.
About Rowdy Girl Sanctuary, Inc.
Rowdy Girl Sanctuary, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization founded in 2015 by Renee King-Sonnen. After going vegan, King-Sonnen and her husband, Tommy Sonnen, turned their beef cattle ranch into farm animal sanctuary that seeks to rescue farm animals from the cruelties of factory farming. Its mission is to educate the public about the cruelties of factory farming and to inspire other ranchers to experience a paradigm shift and help them move from participating in the cruelty of factory farming to living out compassion towards the animals whose lives usually end in brutal death.
