"Rough Night" Advance Screenings Have Audiences Partying Nationwide In Packed Houses
Bustle Fans Line Up for First R-Rated Comedy Directed by a Woman in 20 Years
CULVER CITY, Calif., May 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Rough Night, the highly anticipated R-rated comedy about women directed by Lucia Aniello, brought the party to 20 cities across the country last night as Bustle fans rocked special advance screenings. Starring Scarlett Johansson, Kate McKinnon, Jillian Bell, Ilana Glazer, and Zoë Kravitz, the film will be released in theaters nationwide on June 16, 2017.
At the screenings, the filmmakers and cast surprised audiences and joined the festivities. Co-writer/director Lucia Aniello and co-writer/star Paul W. Downs attended the Bustle screening in Chicago; two of the film's stars, Jillian Bell and Colton Haynes, attended the screening in Los Angeles; and co-star Ryan Cooper attended in New York.
Lucia Aniello said, "We wanted to make a big, fun comedy, but the thing that we kept coming back to was the idea of making it real, and that meant creating characters that felt like people we've known and friendships we've had. I'm so excited that audiences are responding in this way, and that people don't just laugh at these girls, but root for them as if they were their own friends."
"We were thrilled to give our community the first chance to see this movie," added Lindsey Green, Vice President of Corporate Communications at Bustle. "At Bustle we support female creators, writers, and directors, and our readers share that passion. Rough Night is a comedy starring women, written and directed by a woman, and we know our audience will really gravitate towards that."
In response to the extraordinary reactions to the film, additional fan screenings have been scheduled for next week.
In the R-rated comedy Rough Night, five friends from college – played by Scarlett Johansson, Kate McKinnon, Jillian Bell, Ilana Glazer, and Zoë Kravitz – reunite when they rent a beach house in Miami for a wild bachelorette weekend that goes completely off the rails. Just when it looks like their whole lives could change in one night, they find out there's more to the story. The film is directed by Lucia Aniello, written by Lucia Aniello & Paul W. Downs, and produced by Matt Tolmach, Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Dave Becky.
