Rotator Cuff Repair Research by Andrews Institute Physicians Published in Scientific Journal
GULF BREEZE, Fla., Nov. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Results from a research study by physicians at the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine were recently published in the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. The study, "Evaluation of footprint contact area and pressure using a triple-row modification of the suture-bridge technique for rotator cuff repair," was conducted by Roger V. Ostrander, M.D., and Bart I. McKinney, M.D., in the surgical skills lab of the Andrews Institute. The study involved biomechanical confirmation of the triple-row rotator cuff repair surgical technique, proving that it is a more natural attachment and is more secure than the double-row technique and the standard suture-bridge technique in repairing major rotator cuff tears.

The arthroscopic triple-row rotator cuff repair was developed by Dr. Ostrander in an effort to improve the success rate for larger rotator cuff tears because "studies suggest that the standard techniques were resulting in high recurrence rates," according to Dr. Ostrander.
