Ropes & Gray Expands Anti-Corruption and International Risk Team in Washington, D.C. with the Addition of Ama Adams
WASHINGTON, Nov. 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Global law firm Ropes & Gray announced today that Ama Adams has joined its business & securities litigation practice as a partner in the firm's Washington, D.C. office.
Ms. Adams brings to Ropes & Gray a strong practice with a focus on international transactions and the U.S. government's regulation of trade and global investment. Her arrival will immediately expand the capabilities of the firm's anti-corruption and international risk practice, and clients will benefit from her deep experience navigating U.S. trade regulations, including export controls, economic sanctions, anti-corruption, foreign direct investment, and customs laws and regulations.
Ms. Adams also regularly assists clients in developing compliance programs, handling pre-and post-acquisition due diligence, conducting internal investigations relating to potential violations of trade laws, and representing clients before U.S. government agencies in connection with license requests, enforcement matters, and government inquiries. She also represents companies before the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS).
"Ama has significant experience in the regulations and enforcement practices of the Departments of Treasury, State and Commerce," said Alex Rene, partner and co-chair of Ropes & Gray's anti-corruption and international risk practice, and managing partner of the Washington, D.C. office. "As the SEC and DOJ become more aggressive in prosecuting companies for violations of export controls and sanctions in partnership with these agencies, an increasing number of clients are seeking counseling in this space. Ama will be a tremendous resource to them, and we are thrilled to have her on board."
Ms. Adams holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where she served on the senior editorial board for The Virginia Journal of International Law, and a B.A. from Wesleyan University. She joins Ropes & Gray from Baker Botts LLP, where she was a partner in the international trade practice group.
"The attorneys in Ropes & Gray's anti-corruption and international risk practice have demonstrated an outstanding ability to handle complex enforcement, regulatory and litigation matters," said Ms. Adams. "The current international risk landscape makes it an exciting time to join this distinguished group of partners."
The arrival of Ms. Adams follows recent additions to Ropes & Gray's Washington, D.C. office, including: partner and chair of the firm's Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) practice Scott McKeown; business & securities litigation counsel Jeremiah Williams, who was formerly senior counsel in the SEC's Asset Management Unit; and investment management counsel David Tittsworth, who was formerly president and CEO of the Investment Adviser Association.
"Ama is an outstanding attorney and a natural fit for our team," said Jane Willis, partner and head of Ropes & Gray's business & securities litigation practice. "Our litigators provide vital support to clients with legal issues involving a strong government component, and Ama is perfectly positioned to contribute in that regard."
