Ropes & Gray Bolsters Health Care Privacy and Data Security Capabilities on the West Coast with Addition of Counsel Ira Parghi

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Ropes & Gray announced today that Ira Parghi has joined the firm's health care practice group as counsel in the San Francisco office. Ms. Parghi has extensive knowledge of patient privacy issues and compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and she advises on investigations by federal and state regulators.

Ms. Parghi was previously the corporate privacy officer at the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System (North Shore–LIJ), one of the largest integrated health systems in the nation, encompassing19 hospitals and more than 400 outpatient physician practices throughout the New York metropolitan area. As North Shore–LIJ's corporate privacy officer, Ms. Parghi was responsible for system-wide compliance with HIPAA and state privacy laws. Prior to joining North Shore–LIJ, Ms. Parghi was a partner in the health law practice group at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, Canada's largest law firm, where she advised hospitals and professional organizations on regulatory and litigation matters concerning patient confidentiality, medical malpractice, patient care, professional discipline, compliance with new legislation, and conventional as well as electronic documentation. Before joining Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, Ms. Parghi was an associate at Lax O'Sullivan Scott LLP (now Lax O'Sullivan Scott Lisus LLP).

Ms. Parghi received a Master of Public Policy (M.P.P.) from Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law, and a Bachelor of Arts (A.B.) in public policy (with distinction) from Stanford University.
