Ropes & Gray Adds Another Experienced IP Life Sciences Partner in New York, Charlotte Jacobsen
Jacobsen is Second High-Profile Life Sciences Partner to Join the Firm in 2018
NEW YORK, July 17, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Global law firm Ropes & Gray today announced that Charlotte Jacobsen has joined its 350-lawyer New York office as partner in the firm's life sciences intellectual property litigation practice. Ms. Jacobsen is the second high-profile IP life sciences attorney to join the firm in New York in 2018; Filko Prugo joined Ropes & Gray's New York office in February 2018 as partner and chair of the firm's life sciences intellectual property litigation practice.
With 15 years of experience representing the world's leading biopharmaceutical companies, Ms. Jacobsen is a trusted advisor to companies of all sizes facing an array of challenging legal matters. She has served as a first-chair lawyer before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), and the federal district courts in Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) litigation, a distinction held by only a few biopharmaceutical patent litigators.
Additionally, Ms. Jacobsen brings with her international experience: she has handled global litigation involving patent inventorship and arbitration before the ICC International Court of Arbitration. She has also practiced as a barrister in London where she was involved in technically complex patent litigations, including patent oppositions before the European Patent Office, and an appeal to the House of Lords, the highest court in the United Kingdom.
Ms. Jacobsen has litigated patent cases for global biopharmaceutical companies concerning anti-cancer drugs, oral contraceptives, immunosuppressants, cardiovascular drugs for treating high cholesterol, and neurology therapeutics for Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease, among others.
"Clients will immediately recognize why Charlotte is an asset," said Andrew Thomases, head of Ropes & Gray's global IP litigation practice. "She's the advisor that any leading life sciences or biopharmaceutical company would want to consult because of her deep understanding of pharma and IP law, her extensive ANDA litigation experience, and her winning record handling high-stakes litigation."
"The market for great legal talent is competitive, and Ropes & Gray continues to ensure that our clients in New York and around the globe have access to the industry's best legal advisors," said Eva Carman, co-managing partner of Ropes & Gray's New York office. "It's been another exciting year for us in Ropes & Gray's New York office because we've added exceptional attorneys to our team. Charlotte is one of them."
"I am honored to join Ropes & Gray's life sciences practice – one of the best international life sciences practices. The innovative companies Ropes & Gray serves, and the challenging legal questions and issues it navigates are a testament to the firm's leading position in the market," Ms. Jacobsen said.
Ms. Jacobsen received her LL.M. from Columbia Law School, a B.V.C. from Inns of Court School of Law in London, a C.P.E. from City University in London, an M.Sc.in forensic science from Kings College in London, and an M.A. in natural sciences from Cambridge University, U.K. She has been recognized for her excellence in patent litigation, including by The Legal 500 US. Ms. Jacobsen joins Ropes & Gray from Fitzpatrick, Cella, Harper & Scinto.
Ropes & Gray is one of the 20 largest law firms in New York, where it has expanded its presence significantly over the last two years. In addition to Mr. Prugo, this year Ropes & Gray added Paul Tropp to the capital markets practice in July. In May 2017, Lisa Bebchick joined as partner in our litigation & enforcement practice and in February 2017, Paul Scrivano joined as global head of mergers & acquisitions, practicing from our New York, San Francisco and Silicon Valley offices. In January 2017, tax partner James R. Brown rejoined the firm in New York to focus on advising asset management clients on tax structuring and operational issues.
