Romarco drills best hole ever at Haile - New zone discovered
TRADING SYMBOL: TSX: R
TORONTO, March 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - ROMARCO MINERALS INC. (TSXV: R) (the "Company") is pleased to announce drill hole RC-1724 which intercepted 62.5 meters of 9.6 g/t gold and ended in mineralization. The results from this hole represent a significant extension of the Haile mineralization system to the northeast and demonstrate the continued upside potential on the property. Drilling efforts are underway to delineate the new zone which has been named Horseshoe.
The condemnation drilling was nearly 50% complete when holes containing zones of potential mineralization were drilled (RC-1732 and RC-1724). The extent and orientation of this new zone remains undetermined. Underground exploration and development of the Haile system are now more likely as a result of this intercept although open pit mining may be preferable. The announced mineralization lies beneath 12-25 meters (40-80 feet) of coastal plain sand cover and shows the potential for blind targets within the district.
The condemnation hole RC-1724 was drilled 235 meters (775 feet) northeast from the known mineralization of the Haile system. The mineralization encountered in RC-1724 is located 70 meters (230 feet) southwest of the mineralized zone reported in RC-1732 (see press release dated February 18, 2010). RC-1724 encountered a thick zone of mineralization beginning 365.8 meters (1200 feet) down the hole. The hole ended in mineralized rock (6.3 g/t) at 457.2 meters (1500 feet). The top of the mineralization is 335 meters (1100 feet) beneath the surface. The hole encountered an extensive zone of mineralization with a higher grade core as summarized in the table below. The true thickness of the intercept is presently unknown.
------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hole Interval From To Gold (meters) (meters) (meters) (g/t) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- RC-1724 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Interval 91.4 365.8 457.2 7.0 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Including 62.5 379.5 442.0 9.6 -------------------------------------------------------------------------
Diane Garrett, President and CEO commented: "Discovering blind targets (mineralization beneath coastal sands) confirms our assessment that the Haile system has considerable upside potential. James Berry, Chief Geologist, has led his team through an intensive two year study of the Haile system and his application of the model developed has proved successful in the past and will be applied to determining the extent of this newly identified zone. The entire Romarco and Haile team remain excited and enthusiastic about the potential of this significant asset and our commitment to creating more value for our shareholders".
Currently five drill rigs are operating at the site. Drilling is being performed by Boart Longyear, Romarco's company owned drill, and Connors Drilling. The drill samples are being assayed by Alaska Assay Labs in Fairbanks, AK. Blank samples as well as third party standards were inserted at random and submitted with all of the drill samples. The results of the control samples were within acceptable ranges. Romarco's Qualified Person under NI 43-101 is Peter J. Butterfield.
