NEW YORK, Sept. 25, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The fans have voted and Rolling Stone is pleased to announce the winner of the national "Women Who Rock" contest: Karmin! Rolling Stone and the "Women Who Rock" contest, in partnership with Garnier Fructis, have been celebrating the diverse array of females who currently dominate the music world. Karmin will grace the flip cover of the iconic "Women Who Rock" issue, on newsstands September 28, and will be featured in the magazine along with other female music artists.
Karmin's new single "Hello" just hit #1 on the Billboard Dance/Club Play chart and has reached #15 on the Pop chart. Their platinum-selling hit song "Brokenhearted" also charted at #1 on Billboard's Dance/Club Play chart and Heatseekers chart, hit Top 20 on Billboard's Pop and Digital, and hit the top ten on Top 40 Radio. Karmin took the internet by storm last year after posting a cover of Chris Brown's "Look At Me Now" on YouTube. The clip instantly went viral and became one of YouTube's most viewed videos of 2011. The duo has since released their debut album Hello and racked up over half of a billion views for their videos. "We're over the moon about winning Rolling Stone's 'Women Who Rock' Contest," said Karmin's Amy Heidemann. Band mate and fiance Nick Noonan added, "It's such a huge honor to be on the flip cover of this special issue and it wouldn't have happened without our fans. We are beyond thankful to them."
"Congratulations to Karmin!" says Nathan Brackett, Rolling Stone Deputy Managing Editor. "They approached the 'Women Who Rock' contest like they've approached the rest of their career - with a lot of hard work, enthusiasm, and a real grassroots talent for connecting with their fans. They've earned this."
Garnier Fructis, a brand committed to celebrating self-expression and personal style, is the sponsor of the "Women Who Rock" contest. Garnier Fructis' stylists have worked with the acts throughout the competition to help them discover and establish individual styles both on- and off-stage. Garnier Fructis was also instrumental in helping Karmin become cover-ready.
"Music plays such an important role for all of us, reflecting the best of who we are and what we care about," says Kat Peeler, Garnier Senior Vice President, Marketing. "It's central to our Garnier Fructis brand platform so we are incredibly proud to be working with Rolling Stone to find talent as cover-worthy as Karmin's. We're thrilled to celebrate their win, and to help bring their music and personal style to new fans across the country."
