WARREN, N.J., Nov. 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Roka Bioscience, Inc. (NASDAQ: ROKA), a molecular diagnostics company focused on providing advanced testing solutions for the detection of foodborne pathogens, today reported its financial results for the quarter and nine months ended September 30, 2016.
Third Quarter 2016 Financial Results:
Revenue for the quarter ended September 30, 2016 was $1.9 million compared with $1.5 million for the third quarter of 2015, and $1.8 million for the second quarter of 2016. The increase in third quarter revenue year-over-year resulted from an increase in the number of Atlas® instruments placed with commercial customers and increased commercial utilization of the instruments. As of September 30, 2016, the Company had 49 instruments placed with customers under commercial agreements compared to 46 instruments as of June 30, 2016.
Total operating expenses for the third quarter of 2016 were $9.1 million compared with $9.6 million in the third quarter of 2015. Net loss applicable to common shareholders for the third quarter of 2016 was $9.5 million, or $5.39 per share, compared with a net loss applicable to common shareholders of $8.5 million, or $4.91 per share, in the third quarter of 2015. Deemed dividends recorded in connection with issuance of preferred shares in the third quarter of 2016 had an impact of $1.9 million on net loss applicable to common shareholders, or $1.07 per share, for the third quarter of 2016.
Nine Months' Financial Results:
Revenue for the nine months ended September 30, 2016 was $5.3 million compared with $4.5 million for the nine months ended September 30, 2015. Total operating expenses for the nine months ended September 30, 2016 were $27.4 million compared with $29.5 million in the nine months ended September 30, 2015. Net loss applicable to common shareholders for the nine months ended September 30, 2016 was $25.2 million, or $14.37 per share, compared with a net loss applicable to common shareholders of $26.6 million, or $15.40 per share, in the nine months ended September 30, 2015. Deemed dividends recorded in connection with issuance of preferred shares in the third quarter of 2016 had an impact of $1.9 million on net loss applicable to common shareholders, or $1.07 per share, for the nine months ended September 30, 2016.
As of September 30, 2016, the Company had cash and cash equivalents and marketable securities of $30.9 million compared with $32.3 million at December 31, 2015.
