ROK Stars Co-Founder John Paul DeJoria to Receive Dream Foundation's Humanitarian Award 2014
Dream Foundation's friends and supporters will gather for 20th anniversary celebrations on November 8, 2014 at the Bacara Resort & Spa in Santa Barbara, California.
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- ROK Stars PLC, the consumer products and environmental technologies-development company, is delighted to announce that its co-founder, John Paul DeJoria, has been honored with Dream Foundation's Humanitarian Award 2014.
Best known as the co-founder of John Paul Mitchell Systems, Patron Spirits Company and ROK Stars PLC, John Paul DeJoria has been making a significant impact through his vital contributions to Dream Foundation programs, helping dream recipients and their families, since 2002.
Founded in 1994, Dream Foundation serves 2,500 dreams annually for adults and their families suffering from life-threatening illness. The U.S. based organization relies on a network of volunteers, sponsors and individual donors. Dream Foundation receives no federal or state funding and relies solely on corporate and individual contributions and grants. Dream Foundation is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and has never turned down a qualified dream request.
"John Paul DeJoria is a caring and accomplished humanitarian who has helped bring peace, comfort, and closure to countless dream recipients and their loved ones through the fulfilment of final dreams" says Dream Foundation Executive Director Kisa Heyer. "A true humanitarian, he lives each day by his renowned philosophy that 'success unshared is failure,' and he has demonstrated this in the time and resources he's invested in making the world a better place for our dreamers." In addition to his generosity toward Dream Foundation, DeJoria supports a multitude of other organizations and initiatives including the solely-funded philanthropic venture, Grow Appalachia, which aims to empower the hunger-stricken people of Appalachia by providing skills and resources to grow, prepare and preserve organic, nutritious food for themselves, by themselves. Despite his success in business, DeJoria has not lost sight of his humble beginnings and regularly supports the Los Angeles community where he grew up. Such support includes his ongoing and generous support of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, where he spent much of his time as a child.
He also takes great pride in his support of the Los Angeles-based non-profit organization, Chrysalis, dedicated to creating a pathway to self-sufficiency for homeless and low-income individuals by providing the resources and support needed to find and retain employment.
Furthermore, DeJoria and his ROK Stars co-founder Jonathan Kendrick have already created sustainable income for many thousands of women in Africa through their 'Marula by John Paul Selects' cosmetics business in an example of what they refer to as 'compassionate capitalism, empowering people to empower themselves.'
The Celebration of Dreams Gala will be held at the Bacara Resort & Spa in Santa Barbara on the evening of November 8th. Celebrities, special guests and foundation supporters will gather to enjoy a night of heart-warming dream reflections, unparalleled entertainment and both a silent and live auction.
The first and largest national wish-granting organization for adults, Dream Foundation enhances the quality of life for individuals and their families battling life-threatening illness. Dream recipients are those individuals who have been given a year or less life expectancy. Dreams range from basic need items, like a working stove, to bedside reunions and meaningful experiences with children and loved ones. For more information, please visit:
