Throughout the year the office spearheaded various fundraising events and fitness programs, conducted employee health fairs, distributed dental supplies, and sponsored numerous community events such as the 74th Annual Charro Days Fiesta and the Kids Run & Health Fair at Gold's Gym. They also created and distributed interactive DVDs for patients of all ages to help educate the public on the importance of proper dental care.
Through close involvement with the Brownsville ISD, the office dedicated many of its early 2011 resources to various educational programs for the children of area schools. By May, well over 6,000 children had been impacted through interactive hands on education.
In inner city Fort Worth, additional outreach efforts were made to underprivileged children and youth in the H.I.K.I.D.S. program. The office proudly sponsored an in-house dental education and career day for the students, to help educate them about good oral health, careers in dentistry, and the inner workings of a dental office. A DJ was provided for live entertainment along with a full BBQ spread that included hot dogs, chips, drinks and snow cones.
As the year progressed, Rodeo Dental continued to host programs and events to promote the importance of good oral health. In mid September, Oral Health Advisors hosted a two day party for new and existing dental patients in Brownsville, with an open invitation for anyone in the area to attend. Festivities for both children and adults included competitive games, a live DJ, dancing, a variety of food and drinks, and the introduction of cavity-fighting Xylitol candy.
In October, Rodeo Dental rolled out its "I Want Candy" campaign by presenting a special Halloween treat to the kids of the community by distributing Xylitol Cavity Fighting candy. The awareness created is crucial, as six national dental associations endorse Xylitol candy. Rodeo Dental continues to encourage the integration of Xylitol into daily lifestyles and diets since they first introduced it to their patients in September.
Special recognition goes to Rodeo Dental's two outreach directors, Sandra Roberts (Outreach Director for the Rio Grande Valley) and Marcy Serrano (Outreach Director for Fort Worth, Tarrant County). These two individuals worked hard to go above and beyond for the communities served, and were integral in making many of these events a success.
The overriding mission of Rodeo Dental is to stress the importance of frequent visits to the dentist for long-term oral health, but also to change the perception of dentistry and the fear attached to it by adding a fun element to the experience. Rodeo Dental takes their commitment to community outreach and education very seriously, and looks forward to extending their mission to a greater impact in 2012.
