Rockchip Will Release New Android 4.0 Processor at 2012 Consumer Electronic Show
FUZHOU, CHINA, Jan. 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/-- Fuzhou Rockchip Electronics Co., Ltd, a leading developer of fabless semiconductors with an emphasis on Mobile Internet Platforms, will release the RK2918 chip for Google's Android 4.0 Operating System - known as the Ice Cream Sandwich - at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas next week.
With more than 80 percent of the Chinese tablet market presently using Rockchip, the Fuzhou-based company is looking to expand worldwide through CES. Currently the number one Mobile Internet and MP3/MP4 solution for all products in China excluding Apple®, Rockchip will likely have the largest single selection of tablets at CES with 35-to-40 different brands on-site.
Since their inception in 2001, Rockchip has quickly emerged as a major player on the Mobile Internet Platforms world stage. The company's first chip, the 27XX series, provided a great alternative for practically decoding MP3/MP4 products. Last year at CES, Rockchip released its RK2818 processor, and has produced its RK2918 chip only one short year later. The 2011 RK2818 chip was the first chip to decode Google WebM VP8 hardware and is compatible with the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).
"The RK2918 provides the heart and soul for the Android 4.0," said Chen Feng, Vice President of Rockchip. "While a rapidly growing number of tablets are currently using Android 4.0, we have incorporated significant upgrades for the 2.3 version that can be integrated directly from the user's tablet."
Clearly, the best is yet to come...
