Roche Bros. Green Nickel Program Adds Up For Boston Children's Hospital
Plaque to be dedicated to Roche Bros. for Reaching $500,000 Milestone
WELLESLEY HILLS, Mass., June 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- You've heard of buffalo nickels, silver nickels and liberty head nickels, but one regional grocery chain is busy collecting green nickels. When Roche Bros. customers use a reusable grocery bag, they receive a five-cent rebate to keep for themselves or donate to Boston Children's Hospital.
This year's Go Green for Children's program raised $50,972.30 for the hospital. That's over one million nickels, and 10,000 nickels (or $500) more than the campaign raised last year. Each year the results are tallied in the spring.
With this year's donation, Roche Bros. has reached a milestone of more than $500,000 in donations to the hospital. To mark the occasion, Boston Children's Hospital will unveil a special recognition plaque on June 25 at 10 a.m. in the hospital's Mandell Building.
"Boston Children's Hospital is extremely grateful for the dedicated support that Roche Bros. has extended to our patients and their families," said Carola Cadley, vice president of corporate development & special events at Boston Children's Hospital Trust. "Roche Bros.' continued generosity speaks to the quality of their employees, as well as their outstanding commitment to serving children in their community."
The June 25th celebration will include a check presentation along with recognition for the Roche Bros. locations with the highest green bag donations. The Millis store will be honored as the top fundraiser, and the Sudbury location will be recognized as the most improved with a 105% increase.
"It's our customers' generosity that allows us to provide this level of support to Boston Children's Hospital," said Janet O'Connor, director of community relations at Roche Bros. "We are thankful to all the customers who bring in their reusable grocery bags and then pass on their rebate for Boston Children's. Lots of small actions add up to a big impact."
Roche Bros. also supports Boston Children's Hospital with sponsorship of the annual NSTAR Walk for Boston Children's Hospital.
Participating Roche Bros. stores can be found at www.rochebros.com and customers can participate in the 2014 program by bringing their recyclable bags on their next shopping trip.
