Robert W. Doyle, Jr., a Founding Partner of Doyle, Barlow & Mazard, PLLC, Passed Away Suddenly on May 18, 2014

WASHINGTON, May 22, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Renowned antitrust attorney Robert W. Doyle, Jr., a founding partner of the law firm Doyle, Barlow & Mazard, PLLC, located in Washington, D.C., passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014. He was 66 years old.

Mr. Doyle was a prominent member of the D.C. antitrust community. He served at the Federal Trade Commission ("FTC") for over twenty years before entering private practice in 1998. He was beloved by his friends and colleagues and respected by his adversaries.

As an accomplished antitrust expert, Mr. Doyle had a broad knowledge of many industries, including cable, telecommunications, chemical processing, oil and gas production, refining and distribution, metals, printing, paper manufacturing, insurance, automotive parts, retail office products, supermarkets and health care, in addition to other service-related markets. He supervised complex government investigations and litigation in these industries and was lead counsel on many government-litigated matters challenging anticompetitive mergers. 

He served as the Deputy Assistant Director in the FTC's Bureau of Competition.  While serving as Deputy Assistant Director for Litigation at the FTC, Mr. Doyle's office successfully litigated against Staples' proposed acquisition of Office Depot. 

In 1998, Mr. Doyle turned his attention to private practice. He joined Arent Fox, LLP as a partner.  He was then recruited to join Powell, Goldstein, Frazer & Murphy, LLP and later practiced as a partner at Sheppard Mullin, Richter & Hampton, LLP.

In April of 2006, Mr. Doyle founded his own firm with Andre Barlow and Camelia Mazard, and together, they built a successful antitrust and international trade boutique law firm in Washington, D.C. Since the founding, the firm has successfully expanded into several other areas including hospitality law, employment law, and commercial litigation.    

Mr. Doyle was an active member of the Advisory Board of the American Antitrust Institute, a member of the American Bar Association, Section of Antitrust Law, and FTC Committee. He was also a former Co-Chair of the FTC Committee. 

Mr. Doyle received his law degree from Temple University School of Law in 1976, his graduate degree from Temple University Graduate School of Business in 1972, and his undergraduate degree from Temple University in 1970. He was admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, and the U.S. Supreme Court. 

Mr. Doyle is survived by his wife Debra and his daughters: Michaela and Skyler. Details of his memorial service are pending.
