WASHINGTON, June 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Deloitte announced today that Robert Stack joined as a managing director, Deloitte Tax LLP, in its Washington National Tax, international tax practice. Stack previously served as the deputy assistant secretary for international tax affairs at the U.S. Department of Treasury.
Stack will advise Deloitte's U.S. clients and collaborate with Deloitte's global member firms on international tax developments and initiatives, including those from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
"Bob brings an unsurpassed wealth of international tax experience to Deloitte," said Steve Kimble, chairman and CEO of Deloitte Tax LLP. "His experience in the global tax policy arena, along with his tax technical talent, dedication to serving clients, and devotion to growing the next generation of talent, will contribute greatly to the value we provide organizations and our people."
At the Treasury Department, Stack worked directly with the assistant secretary of tax policy and the international tax counsel in developing and implementing all aspects of U.S international tax policy, including treaties, regulations and legislative proposals. He also was the official representative of the Obama administration for international tax policy and represented the U.S. government at the OECD where he was involved in all aspects of the Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) initiative.
"I look forward to working with our clients to analyze and respond to the complicated tax, risk and compliance issues they face," said Stack. "Tax has become a significant strategic business issue, with initiatives like the OECD's BEPS project fundamentally changing the global tax landscape."
Stack previously held roles as the head of the international tax group at Ivins, Phillips & Barker and as co-chair of the tax group at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr. He graduated from Georgetown University Law Center in 1984, where he was editor-in-chief of the Georgetown Law Journal. Upon graduation, he clerked for Judge Thomas A. Flannery of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia and Justice Potter Stewart (Ret.) of the United States Supreme Court.
Stack also holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from State University of New York at Albany; a Master of Arts in French language and literature from New York University; and a Master of Science in foreign service and a Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University.
