Rob Strayer to Lead Bipartisan Policy Center's National Security Preparedness Group
The National Security Preparedness Group is the successor to the 9/11 Commission
WASHINGTON, May 5, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) is pleased to welcome Rob Strayer as Director of its National Security Preparedness Group. Led by former 9/11 Commission Chair Tom Kean and Vice Chair Lee Hamilton, the BPC's National Security Preparedness Group is the successor to the 9/11 Commission.
"Governor Kean, Congressman Hamilton and I are excited to welcome Rob to our team," said BPC President Jason Grumet. "The 10th anniversary of 9/11 presents a critical opportunity to assess the evolving nature of the terrorist threat and our government's readiness to respond. The BPC is fortunate to have someone of Rob's caliber working with Governor Kean and Congressman Hamilton to lead this important effort."
Previously, Strayer served as the Republican Deputy Staff Director for Senator Susan Collins on the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. Supervising more than two dozen staff, he oversaw the development of national security legislation and oversight investigations.
While at the Committee, Strayer managed legislation related to cyber security and bioterrorism. He also was the point person for Senator Collins on the Security and Accountability for Every (SAFE) Port Act of 2006 and the Implementing Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act of 2007. Strayer joined the Committee in 2005 to serve as a counsel on the Committee's special investigation of the government's response to Hurricane Katrina.
"We look forward to Rob's contributions to our National Security Preparedness Group," said David Conover, Senior Vice President at the BPC. "Rob's leadership and experience on the Committee will greatly benefit the project as it continues to monitor the implementation of the 9/11 Commission recommendations and report on new national intelligence threats."
Prior to joining the Committee, Strayer practiced law at WilmerHale in Washington, D.C., following a clerkship with Chief Judge Lanier Anderson on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. He earned his law degree from Vanderbilt University Law School and his undergraduate degree from Denison University.
BPC's National Security Preparedness Group is composed of a distinguished bipartisan group of experts, including former U.S. Secretary of Energy and U.S. Senator E. Spencer Abraham, Peter Bergen, Dr. Stephen Flynn, Dr. John Gannon, Dr. Bruce Hoffman, former Congressman Dave McCurdy, former Attorney General Edwin Meese III, former U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security and Governor of Pennsylvania Tom Ridge, former Homeland Security Advisor Frances Townsend, former U.S. Attorney General Richard L.
