BOSTON, Dec. 21, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- New Orleans is one of America's most celebrated cities, and each year, millions of people descend upon its historic streets to learn more about its rich heritage. Next year, New Orleans celebrates its 300th anniversary, and Road Scholar, the not-for-profit leader in educational travel, has crowned it "Destination of the Year" for 2018. It has planned new learning adventures to celebrate the artistry and heritage of this world-class city.
In 2018, Road Scholar will offer a dozen programs in New Orleans, with topics ranging from Mardi Gras to exploring the Mississippi River. In November, a Road Scholar reunion is planned for those who wish to revisit the city during its anniversary year.
"What makes Road Scholar's learning adventures particularly special are the incredible lecturers we've enlisted to bring the cities to life," said JoAnn Bell, senior vice president of Programs for Road Scholar. "Our lecturers are steeped in the rich diversity and culture that is New Orleans, and we are excited to give our participants the opportunity to experience it firsthand with our featured lecturers."
Featured Lecturers
Doreen Ketchens has been called "the female Louis Armstrong and Lady Louis," and along with her husband and band, she has represented New Orleans around the world. Jerry McCurdy, another lecturer and NOLA native, is eager to share his knowledge of his home town. Together with other lecturers, Doreen and Jerry will take participants on a journey to discover why the Crescent City has been named Road Scholar's Destination of the Year.
