RMT provided engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the civil and electrical infrastructure for Sheffield Wind, including the installation of 4 Clipper C96 and 12 Clipper C93 turbines. RMT was responsible for the entire construction scope and self-performed the turbine erection and mechanical completion.
"This is the fourth project on which we've collaborated with RMT, and once again, we're pleased with their work," said Michael Alvarez, President and Chief Financial Officer of First Wind. "This project had many challenges in its design and construction, and RMT and its contractors met them. We're pleased to now be delivering clean, renewable wind energy to Vermont homes."
Sheffield Wind is expected to commence commercial operations in December 2011, with the Vermont Electric Power Company (VELCO) serving as the interconnection utility. Once operational, Sheffield Wind will have the capacity to power approximately 14,500 homes.
"RMT has been and is currently involved in building approximately 500 MW of wind energy for First Wind," said RMT President David Kutcher. "We are proud to be part of First Wind's team and the company's efforts to build projects that deliver clean, renewable energy to homes and businesses, put people to work, and create real economic opportunity."
In addition to Sheffield Wind, RMT also led the construction of First Wind's Milford I & II projects in Utah, and the Kahuku Wind project in Hawaii. RMT is currently building First Wind's KWP II project in Hawaii, and Palouse Wind project in Washington.
