DENVER, Jan. 23, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design (RMCAD) will host artist Michael Jones McKean on February 13, 2018. McKean, whose work explores the nature of objects in relation to folklore, technology, anthropology, and mysticism, will give a lecture titled On Objects, Time, and the Fallacy of Scale as part of the Visiting Artist, Scholar, and Designer (VASD) Program's Collapsing Time Lecture Series.
Through his work, McKean challenges stable definitions, such as real and replica, fact and fiction, past and future, while using an assortment of media ranging from ancient meteorites and primitive textiles, to of-the-moment technologies, psychotropic medicines, and prismatic rainbows. McKean's lecture will focus on the possibility of disparate objects skidding across time, exploring "scale" and how time's collapse can help re-articulate our ancient involvement with forms, materials, meaning, representation, and poetics.
The event will take place at the Mary Harris Auditorium on RMCAD's campus. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the lecture begins at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to register at www.rmcad.edu/vasdp/rsvp.
Based in New York City, McKean has received numerous awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Nancy Graves Foundation Award, and an Artadia Award. McKean has been awarded residencies at The Core Program at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, The MacDowell Colony, and The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts. McKean's work has been exhibited at the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College, Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, Horton Gallery in New York, The Quebec Biennale in Canada, Inman Gallery in Houston, Texas, Parisian Laundry in Montreal, Canada, Shenkar University in Tel Aviv, Israel, and The Contemporary Museum in Baltimore, Maryland.
