RLTV Wins Gracie Award for 'Taking Care with Joan Lunden'
Groundbreaking Series on Caregiving is Honored by Alliance for Women in Media Foundation
BALTIMORE, Feb. 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Retirement Living TV (RLTV) is proud and honored to announce that Taking Care With Joan Lunden -- a courageous original series that explores the sometimes difficult subject of caregiving -- has won the Gracie Award for Best Talk Show (entertainment/informational), one of the highest accolades for women in media. This is RLTV's third Gracie.
Taking Care With Joan Lunden is a remarkable achievement. Delving into the physical, mental, emotional, and lifestyle adjustments associated with caregiving, the show is both accessible and sensitive, benefiting from skill and compassion of Ms. Lunden who puts the viewer at ease even when discussing tough topics. "A lot of the success of the show is due to Joan Lunden, who with her empathy and intellect brought the series to an even higher level," says Elliot Jacobson, who -- along with Alissa Collins Latenser -- are the show's executive producers.
Taking Care With Joan Lunden exhaustively explores all facets of caregiving, highlighting options and charting realistic strategies. From coping with a loved one's dementia to feelings of isolation and guilt, from choosing to "age in place" to thorough investigations into the newest developments in residential care, RLTV examines the crucial issues candidly and with delicacy. Taking Care With Joan Lunden features real families grappling with these issues as well as enlisting a first-rate group of experts to join Ms. Lunden in providing guidance and comprehensive support.
"The burden of caregiving is shared by entire families, but of the 44 million family caregivers in this country, the majority are women. So to be honored with a Gracie is especially meaningful and, truly, high praise for our show," says Jacobson, "Our goal was to produce a series that was viewer-friendly and easy to watch, but we also wanted to create a resource bank of imperative information about support already in place that families might not know about."
RLTV is the only cable network dedicated to covering issues of vital importance for retired and ageing Americans, and Taking Care With Joan Lunden underscored the urgent need for understanding this burgeoning health care concern.
The awards will be presented at the Gracies Gala on May 24, 2011 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles.
