SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Last week, RiseSmart, the leading provider of contemporary outplacement solutions, accurately predicted that New England would win the "Big Game" based on unemployment rates in the two competing cities.
Out of the last 37 games, the team from the city with the lowest unemployment rates has been the victor in the Big Game 28 times, boosting RiseSmart's Big Game Predictor accuracy to exceed 75%. This year, the unemployment rate in Boston was 2.4% compared to the unemployment rate in Atlanta at 4.8%, giving New England the projected win of the National Football League championship game.
"While it's fun to predict the winner of a sporting event based on statistics like unemployment, it's also gratifying to see the unemployment numbers declining in recent years," said RiseSmart President and CEO Sanjay Sathe. "At RiseSmart our goal is to put people back to work quickly, and we have a track record of achieving that goal at a rate of 60% faster than the national average."
While RiseSmart was fairly confident in their prediction this year, the company notes that nine times out of the last 37 championship games when the lower unemployment rate did not correlate to a win, New England was one of the teams in contention on four occasions.
