Ricoh to Acquire HSSK Forensics, Inc.
Remlox™ Remote Acquisition Technology, Data Forensics Expertise Complements Ricoh Portfolio of eDiscovery Services
WEST CALDWELL, N.J., Jan. 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions and services, today announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire HSSK Forensics, Inc., a leading computer forensics and electronic discovery provider. Ricoh will gain HSSK Forensics' Remlox™ Remote Acquisition technology and the HSSK Forensics lab in Houston, TX, the first private computer forensics lab accredited by the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD/LAB).
Ricoh will integrate Remlox and the HSSK Forensics lab as part of Ricoh's eDiscovery suite of services, expanding its technology and service offering in computer forensics and eDiscovery for corporate counsel and supporting law firms, providing a complete solution for the identification, collection, verification, logging and analysis of electronic data. The agreement also brings the experience of HSSK Forensic's management team and employees to Ricoh, including years of testifying experience. David Greetham, HSSK Forensics' Managing Director of the Computer Forensics & E-Discovery Group, will become National Director of Forensic Services.
"Today's announcement is part of our long-term strategy to provide our customers with best-in-class services and solutions to meet their needs now and in the future," said Eric Wangler, Vice President, Legal Enterprise Solutions, Ricoh Americas Corporation. "The integration of innovative technologies and services, such as HSSK Forensics' lab and Remlox technology, is an important component of our services approach, designed to provide in-house services and expertise for our customers across the entire data lifecycle."
Used in 35 countries, the Remlox technology is designed to create a full and complete sector-by-sector forensic image of a laptop or desktop computer, allowing custodians to gather and transmit evidence without sending computer forensic experts to the client's premises. The tool is preconfigured and supported by extensive auditing and logging to assist in the forensic validation process. Remlox is couriered to a custodian on an encrypted USB device. The custodian attaches the unit to the computer and Remlox automatically creates a complete physical hard drive image. A chain of custody form that is sent with the unit is completed by the custodian and the unit is sent back to HSSK's forensics lab, where certified professionals use the acquired data to perform verification and preliminary electronic data discovery services.
"We are excited about today's news and look forward to becoming part of a world-class global organization," said David Greetham, Managing Director of the Computer Forensics & E-Discovery Group at HSSK Forensics. "Ricoh has established itself as a leader in legal document services. We feel confident that combining our strong expertise in computer forensics with Ricoh's broad portfolio will provide growth opportunities now and in the future."
Ricoh's portfolio of legal solutions includes a suite of best-in-class technologies that provides customers with customized support throughout the entire electronic discovery reference model including data forensics, electronic discovery, document imaging, document coding and web-hosting.
