Ricoh is an Oracle Wholesale Distribution 2011 Industry Excellence Award Winner for Enterprise Resource Planning

WEST CALDWELL, N.J., Oct. 18, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions and services, has won a Wholesale Distribution Industry Excellence Award 2011 for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). The honor, part of the Oracle Industry Excellence Awards, was announced during the Wholesale Distribution General Session at Oracle Open World 2011 in San Francisco October 2 – 6, 2011.

The award spotlights the business improvements Ricoh has achieved with the help of Oracle's Warehouse Management System and Oracle Transportation Management system implementations. In the award-winning project, Ricoh used Oracle Warehouse Management System to automate paper-based processes, including order management and inventory, in its distribution and configuration centers.

"Paper-based processes required physical, person-to-person handoffs that we needed to make more accurate and efficient," said Tracey Rothenberger, Senior Vice President and CIO for Ricoh Americas Corporation. The solution involves handheld label readers that leverage Oracle's advanced barcode scanning capabilities. It enables Ricoh to not only scan supplier part numbers, but easily handle different barcode formats from different suppliers. The system recognizes part number ABC, for example, as XYZ in Ricoh's system and carries out the translation on the fly.

The implementation results included:

• a three-year payback on the investment;
• a 25-percent reduction in order picking time;
• a reduction in receiving time from 8 hours to 3 hours per shipment;
• reduced physical inventory time, from 2 days to 6 hours;
• a new ability to automatically track serial numbers through product configuration and fulfillment; and
• improved labeling of items received from suppliers.
