Ricoh Develops Distributed Scan Management Solution Based on Microsoft Technology
WEST CALDWELL, N.J., Nov. 16, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and advanced document management solutions and services, today announced that it has developed a new Ricoh multifunctional product (MFP) scanning management solution based on Microsoft Distributed Scan Management (DSM) in Windows Server 2008 R2. This development creates a scanning environment for customers from a central location so they do not have to use third party software or manage additional servers. It provides basic scanning functions from Ricoh MFPs and is managed by an administrator through the server. Users enter the "Scanner" function key on their Ricoh device and select "Distributed Scan" to access it.
Document workflow can be automated through DSM by creating scan processes for scanning to Microsoft SharePoint, Exchange, and file servers all following standard MS security and policies. These scan processes are a set of rules that specify user permissions, resolution, file type and delivery of scanned documents. In addition, DSM allows for monitoring of MFP scanners on a network and provides a log of all scan-related events.
"DSM is an incredibly practical application that changes the way Ricoh customers handle their document needs," said Shun Sato, senior vice president, Marketing, Ricoh Americas Corporation. "We are excited to have worked with our partners at Microsoft to develop this technology."
"Our customers are excited to have DSM available in Windows Server 2008 R2," said Jack Mayo, group program manager with the Windows Printing and Imaging team at Microsoft Corporation. "By supporting DSM, Ricoh MFPs will make it easier and more efficient for customers to create and route documents in their business networks with Windows Server 2008 R2."
The technology was developed for the Windows Server 2008 R2 server and is available to customers running this server. Once components for DSM have been installed on Windows Server 2008 R2, users can specify scan settings and monitor DSM enabled scanners. Currently, DSM is compatible with the Ricoh Aficio MP C2800/3300.
Ricoh offers a full range of digital imaging products suited for any workgroup environment from SMB to Enterprise, including color and black and white multifunctional copiers, printers, facsimile systems, scanners, digital duplicators, wide format copiers and digital cameras.
