Richard Viguerie on C-SPAN, Sunday, May 9, to Discuss the Relationship of the Tea Party to the Conservative Movement and the GOP
MANASSAS, Va., May 7 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Richard A. Viguerie, Chairman of ConservativeHQ.com, will be interviewed on C-SPAN's Washington Journal Program at 8:30 AM Eastern time, Sunday, May 9, to discuss the relationship of the Tea Party to the conservative movement and Republican Party.
As a follow-up to his recent Washington Post article, "From an old-school conservative, advice for the tea party," online at http://tinyurl.com/23e7zf5, Viguerie states that the emergence of the Tea Party movement has added a new element to the conservative coalition.
"For the first time in my life, I sense that it may be possible for conservatives to actually come to power and reverse many of the liberal policies that have been enacted in recent decades," Viguerie said. He predicted Tea Party issues will dominate Republican Party politics in the 2010 and 2012 elections.
But Viguerie sees "formidable challenges and pitfalls to avoid" for the Tea Party if it is to be a viable force for the next decade and beyond.
He stresses that the "the single biggest mistake of the conservative movement was becoming an appendage of the Republican Party" and strongly urges the Tea Party remain independent of the GOP.
As part of Washington Journal, Viguerie will answer questions from viewers who call into the program.
