OAKLAND, Calif., Feb. 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Kaiser Permanente today announced that Richard (Dick) Daniels has been named executive vice president and chief information officer.
"Information technology plays a central role in our ability to consistently provide high-quality, affordable and accessible care and coverage to millions of Americans," said Chairman and CEO Bernard J. Tyson. "With his proven leadership skills and expertise in IT, Dick is the ideal person to lead the critical work we are doing to ensure we continually meet the evolving needs of our members, customers and consumers."
Kaiser Permanente conducted an extensive national search to identify and interview several highly qualified candidates for this critical position, and determined Daniels was the right choice to lead Kaiser Permanente's IT organization now and in the future.
Daniels will be responsible for spearheading Kaiser Permanente's information technology vision, strategy and execution, as the organization continues to deliver industry-leading 21st century health care for its 9.6 million members and customers.
Daniels, who has served as the interim chief information officer since September 2014, has more than 30 years of information technology experience and has served in several senior leadership positions within Kaiser Permanente. Prior to stepping into the interim CIO role, he was senior vice president of enterprise shared services for Kaiser Permanente, which included oversight of technology end user services, national facilities services and national pharmacy operations.
Before that, Daniels was senior vice president of Kaiser Permanente's information technology for health plan and hospital operations. He also has served in global IT leadership roles at JP Morgan Chase and Capital One.
"Technology is accelerating a transformation in health care that puts patients and consumers at the center in a new and important way," said Dick Daniels. "Kaiser Permanente is well recognized as a leader in the use of health IT, and I've been privileged to be a part of many of the innovations in the past few years. I am now honored to lead the team that provides technology to enable Kaiser Permanente to lead the nation in transforming care and coverage in support of total health."
