Richard D. Klapp Recognized by Strathmore's Who's Who Worldwide Publication
SYOSSET, N.Y., Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Mr. Richard D. Klapp, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, has been included in the Strathmore's Who's Who Worldwide Edition for his outstanding contributions and achievements in the field of law enforcement.
ABOUT RICHARD D. KLAPP
Mr. Klapp has had nearly 30 years of experience in law enforcement with the San Francisco Police Department, retiring as a Commander. After founding the SFPD Hostage Negotiation Team, he successfully commanded 71 negotiated hostage and barricaded gunmen incidents with no deaths, injuries or failures. As Team Leader of the Hostage Negotiation Team, Mr. Klapp personally negotiated 23 incidents successfully. He also presided over hostage negotiation training for over 300 law enforcement officers in seven Western states. Among other positions, Mr. Klapp served as Lieutenant, Watch Commander, Lieutenant and Commanding Officer of the Police Academy, Commanding Officer of the Personnel and Training Component and Commander of two major divisions. Mr. Klapp received numerous awards including 10 Medals of Valor, six Police Commission Commendations, 32 Captain's Commendations, three Mayor's Recognition Proclamations and one Mayor's Award of Merit, from the Mayor of San Francisco, three Certificates of Appreciation from the FBI and a Certificate of Appreciation from the U.S. Secret Service. Mr. Klapp is a Life Member of the International Police Association and the California Hostage Negotiators Association. His total dedication and commitment to the highest standards/principles of the law enforcement profession, without compromise, he says, is what made possible his success. Mr. Klapp attended Central Michigan College, the Universities of San Francisco and Virginia, the San Francisco Police Department Academy and the FBI National Academy, 125th Session, in 1981. He currently resides in Daly City, California, with his wife, Sue, where he enjoys golf, physical fitness and global travel.
