ITHACA, N.Y., Aug. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Richard Coyle (MBA'86) has joined the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management as the founding executive director of the Emerging Markets Institute (EMI). Coyle will lead EMI as it grows to become a hub for research, knowledge and cross-cultural collaboration for emerging economies around the globe.

Coyle comes to Johnson from Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. where he served as sr. director of International Corporate Affairs, providing public and government relations counsel for the world's largest retailer. Previously, Coyle was appointed by Maine Gov. Angus King, Jr. in 2000 as state director of International Trade, where he led international business development and foreign government relations. He is the recipient of the Order of Merit, the highest civilian honor bestowed by the Federal Republic of Germany, for his role in encouraging trade and cultural ties. Coyle has also taught international business courses at Southern New Hampshire University, and served as chair of the Industry Advisory Board at the Loeb-Sullivan Graduate School of International Business & Logistics at Maine Maritime Academy. In addition to his MBA from Johnson at Cornell University, he holds a BS in Economics, with concentrations in Regional Science and Organization Management from Wharton at the University of Pennsylvania.
